entertain you or enlarge your understanding. Books aren’t
noisy, they don’t pollute or break down. Yet they can, in
their quiet way, change lives and so change the whole
world.

Appledore the power of books has created one of Britain’s
newest and most exciting festivals in one of Britain’s most
stunning locations. This year there’s a galaxy of wonderful
writers, passionate poets – including Colin Shaddick, our
very own writer-in-residence – and big name speakers and
