Last year
something amazing happened in Appledore. All of a sudden our
picturesque fishing village was thronged with writers and
poets. Complete strangers were talking about books and
people who had never dreamt of writing stories wanted try
their hand. A new book festival was born.
A book festival is more than just a series of exciting
events in which top authors and illustrators meet their
readers and bring their books to life. It’s a celebration of
that most pleasurable human freedom – the right to read.
Unlike some other festivals we’re not out to make a profit –
simply spread a love of reading and learning for all ages –
oh yes, and raise funds to keep our local library open. If
you were there last year you will know how good it felt. But
this year is going to be better. We have a name to live up
to – the friendly festival.
